Andrés López del Castillo is a Spanish contemporary sculptor known for his witty, conceptually rich works that compress iconic pop-culture figures — Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, LEGO bricks — into perfect geometric cubes. Working in polychrome resin and mixed media, he interrogates the mythology of mass consumer culture, childhood, and collective memory. His cube-format sculptures recur as a device for containing and questioning popular imagery, suggesting that cultural icons, rather than expanding outward, ultimately collapse inward upon themselves. López del Castillo is represented by the Aldo Castillo Gallery.
Artist statement
I compress the icons of our collective childhood into geometric forms — not to destroy them, but to ask what remains when the myth is contained.
