A reclining female figure and a chair are fused into a single bronze object — the woman’s body merging seamlessly with the seat, armrests, and legs of the furniture she inhabits. Cast in dark patinated bronze, the figure reclines with languid authority, her gilded face the only point of warm contrast against the deep black of the rest of the work. The title, given in both English and Spanish, underscores the conceptual ambiguity at the heart of the piece: is the woman sitting in the chair, or has she become it?
